Choosing men’s work boots

Safety toes

Steel toes are the classic choice and usually the most affordable. Alloy (aluminum) toes are lighter, with a roomier toe box. Composite and carbon toes are metal-free, lighter still, and conduct less cold. Check the label for ASTM F2413, the U.S. standard for impact and compression protection.

Hazard protection

EH-rated boots add secondary protection against electrical shock. ESD and static-dissipative boots control static around electronics and flammables. Metatarsal guards protect the top of the foot from dropped loads, and puncture-resistant plates stop nails and rebar.

Cold and ice

Insulated work boots and pac boots keep feet warm through long shifts outside. Snowgear, Chet’s own line of studded overshoes, pulls over your work boots for grip on glare ice.

The right fit

Chet’s has fitted work boots since 1947. Many styles come in wide widths up to 6E: use the Width filter. Measure at home with our sizing guide, try the Boot Finder, call 833-253-1060, or visit our Spring Lake Park and Circle Pines stores.

Common questions

What’s the difference between safety toe and regular toe boots?

Safety toe boots have a protective cap (steel, alloy, composite or carbon) built into the toe to guard against impact and compression. Regular (soft) toe boots don’t. If your job requires safety footwear, choose a safety toe that meets ASTM F2413.

Can my employer pay for my work boots?

Many do. Chet’s runs safety footwear programs for employers, with on-site fittings from our boot trucks, subsidy tracking and custom invoicing. Ask your safety manager, or see Industrial Services.

What size overshoe should I order?

Order the same size as your work boot (no half sizes, so round up). For wide, half-size or king toe boots, go one size up; for met guard, logger or bulky boots, go two sizes up.

Do you ship?

Yes. Online orders ship nationwide, and orders of $100 or more ship free.
