Choosing outdoor footwear
Hiking boots or hiking shoes
Mid and high hiking boots support your ankles on rough trail and under a heavy pack. Low hiking shoes are lighter and break in faster for day hikes and well-kept trails.
Waterproof or breathable
Waterproof boots keep creek crossings and wet grass out, but they run warmer. Non-waterproof boots and sandals breathe better and dry faster on hot days.
Insulation for cold
Insulation is measured in grams. As a rough guide, 200g to 400g suits cold days when you’re moving, and 800g or more is for long, still hours in deep cold, like a deer stand or ice house.
The right fit
Chet’s has fitted work boots since 1947. Measure at home with our sizing guide, try the Boot Finder, call 833-253-1060, or visit our Spring Lake Park and Circle Pines stores.
Common questions
Can I wear hiking boots to work?
Only if your job doesn’t require safety footwear. Hiking boots don’t have protective toes. If you need one, look at work hikers in our safety toe collection.
How much insulation do I need?
It depends on how active you are. Moving keeps feet warm, so 200g to 400g is plenty for most hikes and chores. For sitting still in the cold, choose 800g or more.
Do you ship?
Yes. Online orders ship nationwide, and orders of $100 or more ship free.
